Christian Weiss visits Freihof in Richterswil
Christian Weiss, sales representative at Weibel Weine, recently visited Freihof in Richterswil. He enjoyed a rack of wild boar with chanterelle mushrooms, creamed Savoy cabbage and taglierini, accompanied by a Nebbiolo Langhe Gavarini DOC from Elio Grasso, while chatting with Annemiek van der Laan and Dani Schöchli:
What do your guests particularly appreciate about the restaurant?
Located in the heart of Richterswil, the Freihof is a traditional inn that has stood for hospitality and culinary enjoyment for almost 200 years. Here, history and modernity come together in a unique way. The classic interior preserves the charm of bygone days, while contemporary touches and great attention to detail create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Tradition with a Modern Twist
The kitchen also stays true to its roots. Dani Schöchli focuses on traditional Swiss and European cuisine, reinterpreted with modern influences. Consistently high quality, carefully prepared dishes and attentive service are at the heart of everything they do.
The homemade Swiss-style meat patties, known as Hacktätschli, are a particular favourite. A true classic that brings back childhood memories for many guests and shows that good food is about much more than simply satisfying hunger. Whether in the depths of winter or on a hot summer’s day, these beloved meat patties remain one of the most popular dishes all year round.
Which wines from Weibel Weine are customer favorites?
The culinary experience at the Freihof is complemented by a carefully curated international wine selection. Annemiek van der Laan places great emphasis on quality and diversity.
Among the guests’ favourites from the Weibel Weine portfolio are the Champagne «Perpétuelle» Extra Brut AOC, selected Chablis wines, and characterful reds from Piedmont and Tuscany. Wines from Elio Grasso and Gaja are particularly popular, including the Sito Moresco Langhe DOP and the Magari Bolgheri DOP. The Morellino di Scansano DOCG is another firm favourite and, alongside other carefully selected wines, is also available by the glass.
What is the house specialty? And what makes it special?
What makes the Freihof so special is the combination of time-honoured traditions, warm hospitality and a genuine passion for fine food and wine. A place steeped in history that has preserved its original character while embracing the present.
In other words, a place where not only culinary delights but also wonderful memories are made.
