Lambrusco - a wine of hospitality

Derived from Lambrusco vines, Lambrusco captivates with its fruity character and sparkling freshness, inviting you to enjoy every drop and bringing to life that Italian holiday feeling. Sixty different variations of this grape variety exist. Single-origin Lambrusco is made into a sparkling and fruity red wine, or Ancellotta grapes (Rossissimo) are added to intensify the colour. Small, round, dark blue to black berries cling to the cone-shaped, medium-sized cluster. The Lambrusco vines flourish on soils that are not overly rich and dry, are modest in their requirements for the climate and can also tolerate harsh weather conditions. Their ripening process occurs late in the season, allowing the grape to soak up all the autumnal sunshine and make the most of it.

Development and taste: On one hand, plain Lambrusco is produced, which is inexpensive but comes with a strong loss of aroma. Whereas, on the other hand, high quality Lambrusco is produced with abundant aroma and fruitiness. A very delicate technique is used, which is reflected in a higher price. This wine can be matured dry or sweet, but in any case it should be enjoyed young.

The colour of the Lambrusco shimmers in an intense ruby red, occasionally with violet reflections, always sparkling and smelling of grapes. Lambrusco has a fresh fragrance, is often low in alcohol, sparkles with its refreshing acidity and is rich in tannins. It is worth noting the versatility of this sparkling wine, especially the dry version. Inviting fruity notes of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, elderberries, currants and unripe pears refresh the mouth with well regulated acidity and fine foam. A delicately bitter and spicy palate combined with liquorice nuances rounds off the drinking experience.

Lambrusco is a wine that can be drunk on any occasion, perfect for both classic dishes and modern cuisine. Enjoying a glass of Lambrusco enhances the vibrancy of the dish or acts as a light and sparkling aperitif to open the meal.

History of the Lambrusco grape variety: Age-old documents claim that the cradle of Lambrusco grapes is in Modena (wine-growing region of Emilia-Romagna), which is home to the noblest vines of this variety rich in diversity. Lambrusco wine has emerged as the best-selling Italian wine since the 1970s. The quality at the beginning of the Lambrusco boom was not up to today's standards.

Largest growing regions: The Lambrusco grape is native to the Emilia-Romagna region, which is where the wine is predominantly cultivated. The red grape enjoys particularly extensive cultivation around Modena, Parma and Reggio Emilia.
