Winemaking

Giallo d’Arles is an uncompromising, almost radical interpretation of Greco di Tufo – a white wine with the soul of a red. It comes exclusively from the single vineyard of the same name in Tufo. The grapes are notable for their high pigment content, giving them a golden to amber hue even at harvest. The must appears ochre with reddish nuances, while the wine – bottled unfined – shines in a vivid golden yellow. A short maturation period in small oak barrels during fermentation further intensifies the color and adds structure. Full clarification is deliberately avoided to preserve the wine’s original strength, depth, and unique character.

Our tasting note

Brilliant golden yellow with amber reflections. On the nose, a powerful and complex aromatic range unfolds, with notes of apricot, quince jam, and pronounced mineral depth. On the palate, Giallo d’Arles is full-bodied and fresh, with an impressive balance between rich fruit, minerality, and finesse. Its structure recalls that of a great red wine: dense, powerful, yet refined. A wine with tremendous aging potential, gaining elegance, depth, and harmony over time. The name pays tribute to Van Gogh’s favorite color during his time in Arles: a vivid yellow considered the forerunner of red.

Quintodecimo

Luigi’s winery, Quintodecimo, is located in Mirabella Eclano, about 80 kilometres northeast of Naples, in the heart of the Taurasi DOCG. The region is characterised by green meadows, dense forests and a mild climate influenced by the Apennines – ideal conditions for cultivating vines on volcanic soils. A PhD oenologist, Luigi runs his estate organically and produces elegant Aglianico red wines that have played a key role in the modern recognition of this grape variety. Since its founding in 2001, the winery has followed a clear philosophy focused on preserving terroir and grape identity. Luigi and his wife Laura carefully select the vineyard sites and intervene only when necessary to craft characterful wines. In addition to his acclaimed Aglianico reds, Luigi also succeeds in producing outstanding white wines from the native varieties Greco, Fiano and Falanghina – wines that impress with freshness, complexity, and ageing potential.
