Winemaking
The high quality grapes are each picked when ideally ripe, with the Syrah grapes being harvested somewhat later to len d the wine an added complexity. After harvesting, the four grape varieties are fermented for 20 days in separate stainless steel tanks. Following this, Nearco is stored for 12 months in 225-litre barriques and then allowed to develop in 500-litre tonnaux.
Our tasting note
Nearco decants into the glass with an intense ruby-red col our with violet reflections, and immediately gives off enticing fruity notes of ripe black cherries, plums and a pinch of spice. It is very dense on the palate, nicely weighted and well-balanced, with mature tannin and a pleasing freshness. With its wonderfully delicate barrique notes, the wine lingers pleasantly on the palate.
Col d'Orcia
The Tenuta Col d Orcia is one of the most historic and well-cultivated vineyards in Montalcino. The estate has over 142 hectares of wine-growing land, whereby the majority is planted with Sangiovese, the unique wine variety for Brunello di Montalcino. Since 1973 the vineyard has beenunder the ownership of the aristocratic family of Marone Cinzano, and in 2010 switched over fully to biodynamic winemaking. Today Col d Orcia is one of the largest organic vineyards in Tuscany.
