Winemaking
An exceptional Burgundy dedicated to the life’s work of Jean Morin, the grandfather of François Labet. The grapes come from the same small plot of 110-year-old vines used for the “Vieilles Vignes.” For this special "Hommage," only the grapes that grow very close to the vine are used. The grapes are transported in wicker baskets, sorted without de-stemming, fermented with natural yeasts, and gravity is used instead of pump systems. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 50% of which are new.
Our tasting note
Ruby red in color with subtle garnet reflections. The aroma is simply overwhelming! It envelops the nose with dense notes of plums, dark berries, blackberries, and red currants. Intertwined are hints of smoke, cigar box, vanilla, dried orange peel, and oriental spices. The taste is powerful yet elegant, with its sandy, very fine, and melting tannins. The finish is of remarkable length and high complexity. A true unique gem!
Château de la Tour
The Château de La Tour has been owned by the Labet family since its establishment at the end of the 19th century and is located in the northern part of Clos de Vougeot. Monsieur Beaudet from Beaune was the first member of the family to purchase vineyards here. His daughter then married the local winemaker Jean Morin, and their daughter eventually married Pierre Labet, who also owned a winery in Beaune. Since 1986, Château de La Tour has been managed by François Labet. «Clos de Vougeot» is one of the largest Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, with more than 100 parcels and around 80 owners. With 6.5 hectares (12% of the Grand Cru), Château de La Tour is the largest owner and the only one to vinify and bottle the wines of Clos de Vougeot itself. The vines have an average age of about 60 years.
